The Fab 444 launch
The first train of South West Trains' £1bn hi-tech Class 444 fleet was named The Fab 444 in memory of the era when slam-door trains first came in.
A launch ceremony at London Waterloo station followed a special journey for the train from Portsmouth & Southsea yesterday calling at Havant, Petersfield, Haslemere, Godalming and Guildford.
SWT managing director Andrew Haines said: 'It is with some sadness that we bid farewell to the slam-door trains. But the new Class 444s offer passengers the comfort and facilities a train of the 21st century should.'
Beatles tribute band the Counterfeit Beatles played the Fab Four's hits on route.
